BREAD & CULTURE

OUR STORY

From New Jersey farmers markets to the heart of Flemington. Handmade baking, local connections, and a community we’re proud to be part of.

Where it all started

Handmade from the Start

Bread & Culture started with humble beginnings at farmers markets across New Jersey, and since then, our love for baking has only grown stronger. With a focus on local ingredients, we have always sourced from nearby suppliers to support the community and bring the best tasting products to the table. Our passion for baking is only rivaled by our commitment to giving back and being an active part of the community we have received so much support from over the years.

What Brings Us Together

Our name speaks to both sides of who we are-the living culture behind naturally fermented bread and the people, traditions, and community that surround it.

Meet the Team

Paulo & Michelle

Paulo is a trained school counselor whose life path reconnected him with food. He is a self-taught baker who has fallen in love with the process of making sourdough bread. When Paulo isn’t baking, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Michelle, and children: Sebastian, Matteo, Penelope, and Kai

Thank you for being part of our journey.

We wanted to create a place where our community could come together over great bread & feel a little more connected to the food, the people, and the place we call home.

The People Behind the Bakery

Behind every loaf, pastry, sandwich and cup of coffee is the team that brings Bread & Culture to life each week. We’re grateful for the people who put care into what we make and help make our bakery a welcoming part of the Flemington community.

Made By a Great Team

Our Process

Good bread takes time.

Our naturally leavened breads are made in small batches, using thoughtfully sourced ingredients and a process that allows flavor and texture to develop naturally. From levain to the final cold proof, we believe the best results come from patience, care, and doing things by hand.
